Short-Term Missions

SPECIAL NOTICE:

We are looking for a music minister and servant team to come participate in October.

We have recently re-established a fellowship amongst the North American missionaries that work in the eastern part of Guatemala.  We have met twice in the last three months and it has been an encouraging time of fellowship, sharing and prayer together.  On a national level, there is an “Inter-Missions” every year in March that is held outside of the capital.  It is a weekend retreat for all North American missionaries and is subsidized by a church or missions organization so that it is very affordable for the missionaries and their families to attend.

We talked at the last get together for “our group” of having a mini version of intermissions.  A couple of the missionaries expressed that their pastors or known contacts like to “sow into leadership” and felt that they would be willing to come to take part in the teaching for an advent such as this.  We are looking at a time frame in October, about the second weekend I believe.  We still need someone to lead music and a servant team that could include bringing multiple services to bless the missionaries, such as:

  1. Assisting during the sessions to serve in general capacities.

  2. Offer special services that could include things such as hair cuts, massages, manicures, pedicures, Christian counseling, family photos, assistance with computer issues etc.

  3. Provide gifts for drawings or for general gift bags for the missionary families.

There are any number of ways that could be offered to bring blessing and a little “pampering” to the missionaries.  We numbered about 25 people at the last fellowship, but I would venture that together, with our different forms of ministry outreach, that we are touching thousands and even tens of thousands of people in our missionary work in Guatemala.  We feel that it would be a great outreach for someone to come and participate with this outreach!

If you cannot come, then maybe you would like to sponsor the event with an offering that we can use, to cover some of the expenses.  Please prayerfully consider what you may be able to do!  Sowing into leadership will bring back great dividends, as these “laborers of the Lord” continue to serve faithfully to what God has called them.

If you are interested in taking part in the event, in any capacity; please communicate back with me at nancy@servantministries.net.  God Bless You!

NOTE:  Last month I encouraged you to book your teams if you had interest in bringing a team for the Fall of 2008 or for the early part of 2009.  I want to let you know the time slots that have been booked.  This will hopefully help those of you who still would like to bring a team, to know what time slots have been filled and to plan accordingly.

November 6-15, 2008                      Medical team from Columbus, GA

November 20 - December 4, 2008    Construction/VBS team from Canada

January 22-31, 2009                       Medical team from Crossville, TN

February 12-21, 2009                      Construction team from Hudson, MI

I have been communicating with a few more groups that haven't set their dates yet, but want to encourage you to get your time slot set aside.  These short term trips can impact their participants in a dramatic way.  Take advantage of exposing your people to an opportunity to "experience missions"!
