In the effort to provide
ongoing and consistent help to the people in this part of Guatemala,
Servant Ministries has established a monthly assistance program for the
children. The program began
in September of 2000 with 29 children.
Today, over 200 children have sponsors.
The children come once a month to receive assistance.
These children and their parents come from 20 different villages,
often walking 2-3 hours.

Sponsorship
is $30.00 a month ($34.00 in Canada).
For that $30.00
the children receive vitamins, parasite treatments, medications as
available and a bag of food weighing about 45-50 Lbs. An example of what
they would receive every month would be: corn, beans, rice, sugar, salt,
powder milk, and a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.

We are now growing some of our own vegetables through a "drip system."
In May of this year we handed out our first harvest of cilantro to some
of our Embrace families.

On the day
of distribution there is a Bible class for the children and at times a
seminar for the parents on such topics as, hygiene, food preparation, or
parenting skills. We also
desire to provide a medical and dental clinic for our children and their
families at least once a year. There
are also quarterly birthday parties and Christmas celebrations.
Through donations, we have been able to provide school supplies,
periodic hygiene bags, and other special items throughout the year. This
program brings incredible joy as we see the changes taking place in the
health and countenance of these beautiful and precious children.
This
past year, many sponsors provided the funds to build a
lorena stove for their child's family. These stoves are a
great blessing. They use 1/3 less wood and they keep the fire off the
ground where insects, animals and contamination can cause problems.
